critical reflection
3.2.1 Module Learning
At the start of the module, I aimed to become more confident speaking in front of others and to improve my written communication. Regular class discussions and presentations helped reduce my anxiety and improved the clarity and assertiveness of my speech. I learned to structure my thoughts better, making it easier to express myself during discussions.
In writing, I have become more focused on clarity and purpose. The feedback process taught me to revise my work more critically and express ideas more concisely. I am more aware now of how my writing is received by others and how important it is to communicate ideas logically and simply.
This module also deepened my understanding of critical thinking. I am able to make a more deliberate effort to support my views with evidence and to consider different perspectives. That said, I still sometimes stay on the surface when I could dig deeper. To improve, I plan to challenge myself with more complex materials and ask better questions when analysing content. Overall, I have realized that communication and critical thinking are lifelong skills that grow with practice and reflection.
3.2.2 Project Learning
One key area of learning during the research project was teamwork. Initially, I saw teamwork as simply dividing tasks and working with one another. But I have come to understand that good collaboration needs ongoing communication, shared effort, and flexibility. Disagreements were tough at first, but they taught me to listen actively and be open to different viewpoints.
I also learned that I tend to take a quiet role in group settings. Over time, I became more confident in giving input and supporting my teammates. This has helped me grow both as a communicator and a team member.
The projects have also shifted my views on learning. It is not just about individual performance but also about what we build together. I now value the process of learning through discussions and teamwork. Providing constructive feedback to my peers allowed me to reflect on myself and take notes so as to not commit similar mistakes. On the other hand, receiving feedback from my peers and my professor allowed me to reflect and learn from myself, which gave me useful insights that I can carry forward in future collaboration, both individual and collaborative settings. Moving forward, I will continue to aim to be more proactive and engaged in group settings, knowing that strong collaboration leads to better outcomes.
Thank you, Kylie, for this informative and insightful reflection. All your takeaways warm my heart.
